Rafi (Rafael) Mokady (July 23rd, 1929 – June 1967) was a senior lecturer of soil and water sciences at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology.

He was one of the pioneers of the science of physical chemistry

of the soil in Israel.

 

Rafi was wounded during the 1967 breakthrough battle of the Syrian Golan Heights, while fighting as a Tank Battalion Commander.

When the battle was over, he was left wounded in the field.

Rafi was found only 8 days later, during a search initiated by his friends and family.

 

The Mokady Award was founded by Rafi's colleagues. Since 1970 it has been given annually to an outstanding MSc or PhD student.
